News on Trump Lawyer, Obstruction Report, Rosenstein & Syria….

Another very busy news week (what an understatement), featuring stories on Syria (below), the prez going ballistic over the raid on the Trump lawyer Cohen’s office (below), Zuckerberg defending Facebook before Congress & James Comey’s book release (part 2), plus Paul Ryan not running for reelection (part 3).  And as James Comey once stated, oh lordy I hope there are tapes (more on that below with possible Cohen tapes).  Below are also some stories Mueller’s obstruction report about Trump should be ready soon, more so now that Trump is not agreeing to testify.  On top of all that, Rosenstein says he’s prepared to be fired (exclusive-deputy-ag-rod-rosenstein-tells-confidantes-he-is-prepared-to-be-fired), which could well lead to a constitutional crisis!  That would mark a blatant attempt to soon fire Mueller or limit his investigation, or squash the upcoming obstruction report.  In the Trump era, every week is full of chaotic headline disasters, none more than this week.

The White House claims the prez has the power to fire Mueller directly, which is not only inaccurate based on existing statutes, but would also indicate he already thinks he’s a dictator.  It would also expose for all to see his crime of obstruction of justice, most definitely an impeachable offense if the majority party in Congress adhere to the rule of law.  Attempting to fire Mueller directly, or firing Rosenstein or Sessions with the intent to put someone else in place to fire Mueller, would be Trump’s Archibald Cox/Saturday Night Massacre moment that soon led to Nixon’s resignation.  For a president to even consider firing a special prosecutor investigating his possible crimes, it’s almost unthinkable it could happen again, yet that’s the crisis we may soon be facing.  Trump is so corrupt he may just go ahead & fire people, &/or is so guilty he may figure such desperate moves are his only chance.

Should it come to that, the GOP could do the right thing in Congress & begin hearings on impeachment, or ignore the rule of law bringing on a constitutional crisis, where our democracy could be hanging by a thread.  GOP congresspeople are even too scared to write a preemptive bill for protecting Mueller, so they seem more worried about upsetting many in their base than being on the wrong side of history.  I keep saying & I hope most of you see it by now, don’t think fascism couldn’t come to America.  As a master con man, Trump has deceived millions into taking his side, & may have so corrupted his party they’d excuse his crimes.  We may be facing that fork in the road very soon.  Should we choose the wrong path, our great nation along with cherished freedoms could slide into permanent decline.

All these deflections, lies, threats & cover ups we keep seeing from the White House, it fits in with all the other crimes we’ve become aware of so far from this scandal.  Just consider the facts we already know.  A foreign power did interfere in our election, through hacking/dumping emails & fake ads on social media seen by over 100 million.  Numerous members of Trump’s campaign staff were in regular contact with Russians, expressed interest in the dirt the Russians had on their opponent, with a couple of them even correctly predicting when the email dumps would come.  There have already been several charges & guilty pleas against those associated with Trump’s campaign.  Until recently, Trump never criticized Putin & even heaped effusive praise on the brutal Russian dictator, while his campaign mysteriously changed their platform at the RNC convention to lift Russian sanctions.  Trump has already engaged in obstruction through his firing of Comey, his hand in writing the phony reason for the Trump Tower meeting with Russians, & other instances.  And that’s just what we know!  Imagine what Mueller is discovering!  This is definitely no witch hunt, it’s very real!

Because firing Mueller would amount to a political disaster, as I mentioned a more probable concern would be replacing Sessions &/or Rosenstein with a Trump crony who’d shrink the scope of the investigation: trumps-firing-rosenstein-sessions-reportedly-imminent.  They could also suppress Mueller’s final report.  We must stay on guard, since Trump’s apparently corrupt criminal enterprise seems capable of almost anything.  He could make a rash decision on Syria which escalates into tragic consequences, from his core motives being distracting from the Russia scandal.  He just floated a trial balloon pardoning Scooter Libby of W. Bush fame, with the motives being to soon pardon his people.  With former campaign manager Manafort & perhaps Trump lawyer Cohen facing multiple charges, even should through nefarious means Trump does manage to derail the Mueller probe, at least in part their cases would still move forward, handled by local jurisdictions in New York & Virginia.

Trump is no doubt getting wind of the line of questioning witnesses are getting from Mueller, so he knows better than anyone the kind of trouble he’s in.  Now that he’s seething at the investigation from the Cohen raid, he’s pushing back on any interview with Mueller as talks have broken down.  Special counsel has subpoena power & this could get a lot more ugly as it gets tied up in court.  Or he may have plenty of evidence to release a report on obstruction of justice against the prez without interviewing Trump: trump-mueller-teams-prepare-to-move-forward-without-presidential-interview.  The latest Trump news speculates the Mueller report on just the obstruction side could be complete in a month or two.  The main categories in that report would likely include Trump firing Comey, his helping craft the phony excuse for the Trump Tower meeting, his dangling of pardons for witnesses, & pressuring Sessions not to recuse himself from the investigation.

Mueller has all kinds of former Trump associates cooperating with the investigation, so as they keep putting the pieces together, they should be able to get to the bottom of what all happened.  Stormy Daniels is also cooperating with federal investigators specifically with regard to the hush money paid before the election & the threats she originally got in a parking garage.  They’re also looking at the payout to ex-playmate Karen McDougal, plus there’s now a third report of hush money paid to a Trump World Tower doorman: dollar30000-rumor-tabloid-paid-for-spiked-salacious-trump-tip (& might there be a love child?).  Also the hush money looks to have been used to keep embarrassing stories out of the media.  These are whole new tracks this overall scandal has opened up.  There’s even word the raid on Cohen’s office is to examine the relevant facts surrounding the Access Hollywood tape.  I believe that cuts at the heart of the core case of collusion/conspiracy, since in the Trump campaign’s efforts to soften the damage from the tape being replayed in the news, investigators might discover coordination in the timing of the WikiLeaks email dump right after that tape was made public, a very convenient distraction.

Trump lawyer Cohen was also involved in various business deals Trump had with Russia, so raiding his office was not just about some Trump sex scandal.  It fits in with all the other areas special counsel is examining, which likely includes conspiracy, obstruction, money laundering, bank fraud, blackmail & any number of other potential charges against any number of people in Trump world, so no wonder Trump is panicking.  Plus there are late reports the FBI from the raid may have tapes of conversations between Cohen & Trump with compromising details: trumps-allies-worry-that-federal-investigators-may-have-seized-recordings-made-by-his-attorney.   As a context, the Nixon tapes did a tremendous amount of damage.  Those who were around back then like me, isn’t Trump acting a lot like Nixon did?

Trump’s anger this week over the raid (which seems to have subsided somewhat as the week has gone on) is not because he thinks Mueller overstepped his bounds, it’s all because Mueller may be on the verge of discovering serious crimes that would take down his presidency.  Everything about Trump’s reactions all along to this scandal speak to his likely guilt.  The same goes for the Trump lawyer Michael Cohen who is now directly under criminal investigation & (probably) pleading the 5th.  Might the ultimate Trump loyalist actually flip?  I expect dozens of Trump cronies will ultimately face charges, along with Trump himself.  When the you-know-what hits the fan as all the evidence comes out, just like I predicted more than a year ago, this is looking to go down as the biggest political scandal in our nation’s history!

There is other news on the Russian scandal which is getting lost in all the major headlines.  Mueller’s probe goes rolling along as we see in this link robert-muellers-investigation-may-be-scattered-but-he-knows-what-hes-doing & this one mueller-wants-subpoenas-for-35-witnesses-for-manafort-trial & this one mueller-investigates-more-seychelles-meetings & also this one erik-prince-trump-russia-seychelles-mueller.  In another report, Dana Boente has been interviewed by Mueller & turned over notes verifying Comey’s account of his previous interactions with the prez: robert-mueller-trump-fbi-dana-boente-russia-investigation-obstruction-justice.

It signals this week having an incredible amount of big news stories when an impending American attack on Syria gets bumped down to the bottom of the page.  The bombing that was vowed mid-week has yet to come.  Could it be they’re having a tough time selecting targets without risking plenty of collateral damage?  Are the targets hidden or intelligence iffy?  Could Trump be speaking loudly but carrying a small stick?  Or could Trump be worried about what an angry Russia might leak about him personally?  Another group of links expose some of Trump’s shaky business dealings: trump-family-business-demands-foreign-government-do-its-bidding.  In the last group of links are articles like this: trump-administration-falling-apart.  So please stay informed in these uncertain times & peruse the link titles.  Chuck Todd just basically said the news this week might go down as the ultimate news overload.  It may be a new record on the number of relevant headline stories in a single week.
