Trump Credibility in Tatters as he keeps lying about the investigation, DOJ & FBI….
Under the category of Trump corrupts all he touches, let’s examine the sad case of his new TV lawyer. Rudy Giuliani has become a lying machine to help sustain the optics so Trump’s loving base doesn’t fall out of love with him. Making impeachment a political issue is Trump’s only hope. Now he claims the FBI had a spy within the Trump campaign, which falls under the category of Trump’s team will commit any lie to smear the DOJ, FBI & Mueller. Rudy is simply strategizing with Trump & following his orders to aggressively fight back against the Mueller probe, so they’ll invent any conspiracy theory to achieve their goals. The narrative they seek with their base is convincing them of the need to investigate the investigators. It’s all crazy….& dangerous!!! By now it’s easy to spot the Trump credibility is long gone, but perplexingly his base can’t decipher the obvious.
So smearing the FBI is one way to get at Mueller, & they’ve come up with another Watergate whopper. There’s probably been a dozen times team-Trump lied about another scandal they claimed was bigger than Watergate, even though there’s nothing to them. That a FBI spy was imbedded within the campaign is another doozy. The recent reports indicate the FBI actually stacked the deck to favor Trump before the election, since they hid from the public evidence of campaign malfeasance which required their investigating. Plus Comey issued a warning about Hillary 10 days prior to the election, so the FBI may have helped Trump win as much as the Russians. Another Rudy pronouncement is wrong, as the special counsel is not interfering with things bigger than them, since protecting our electoral system & constitutional democracy is about as big as it gets. Rudy also uses convoluted logic that Mueller won’t indict, in all likelihood another lie, since Nixon & Clinton precedence suggests otherwise.
And trying to get Mueller to wrap things up because Rudy says the probe has gone on long enough, the reality is Mueller’s team is moving at tremendous speed, which has produced numerous indictments & an increasing treasure cove of evidence. The average length of time for a special counsel probe is closer to 3 years, & Mueller’s case is far more complicated & far-reaching than most. The whole strategy team-Trump has concocted by bringing in Rudy to begin with, it’s a deliberate attempt to go on the offensive against the investigation as Mueller’s probe just hit the one-year mark. But their bombasts are all lies! They can’t produce a shred of evidence, since they just throw garbage at the wall to see if anything sticks. Trump & his cronies & echo-sycophants have cried wolf so many times over this past year with blatant falsehoods about the investigation, even the wolf is getting annoyed. But if they succeed in their crazy ambitions, our democracy would be toast!

President Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani has warned Robert Mueller that the Trump team will wage a campaign to end the Special Counsel’s Russia investigation on its one-year anniversary, with several plans up their sleeve. Giuliani has taken a combative approach to the investigation since being brought on by the president last month. Having failed to bring a swift conclusion to the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign as he initially predicted, Giuliani said Tuesday that the legal team will step up their efforts leading up to the one-year anniversary of the investigation on Thursday. “We are going to try as best we can to put the message out there that it has been a year, there has been no evidence presented of collusion or obstruction, and it is about time for them to end the investigation,” Giuliani told Bloomberg. “We don’t want to signal our action if this doesn’t work—we are going to hope they listen to us—but obviously we have a Plan B and C.”

Former secretary of state Rex Tillerson warned Wednesday that deceptive leaders and “alternative realities” are a threat to democracy, an implicit critique of his former boss, President Trump. In his first major address since leaving Washington after he was fired in March, Tillerson told graduates at the Virginia Military Institute to remember the importance of integrity and honesty. He never mentioned Trump by name, but his meaning was clear. “If our leaders seek to conceal the truth or we as people become accepting of alternative realities that are no longer grounded in facts, then we as American citizens are on a pathway to relinquishing our freedom,” Tillerson said. Truth, he said, is the “central tenet of a free society.” “It is truth that says to our adversaries, ‘We say what we mean, and we mean what we say,’ ” Tillerson said. Trump frequently distorts the truth, including about the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, which the president calls a “witch hunt.” He often refers to unflattering news coverage as “fake news,” a term that has been adopted by authoritarian and other populist leaders. When we as people, a free people, go wobbly on the truth — even on what may seem the most trivial of matters — we go wobbly on America,” Tillerson said. “If we do not as Americans confront the crisis of ethics and integrity in our society and among our leaders in both public and private sector — and regrettably at times even the nonprofit sector — then American democracy as we know it is entering its twilight years,” Tillerson said.

The levels of lying, duplicity, hypocrisy and outright criminality are about the same, and covering Trump is unnervingly reminiscent of covering Nixon. There is the same feeling that the whole thing is a mescaline dreamscape from which you can’t come down. Everything is too bright, too fast, too weird. Every time you think you’ve reached a pinnacle in the story, it keeps going up and up and up. Revelations about Russian oligarchs morph into tales about strippers and Playboy playmates, which morph into secret meetings on islands in the Indian Ocean, which turn into millions of dollars skimmed off billion dollar Russian oil deals.

So many conservatives have lost the capacity to think for themselves, relying on the opinions of their selected far-right echo shows to do all the political thinking for them. They even trust the Trump credibility when there is none. These far-right folks can’t even take a rational/objective look at the details/nuances of any policy proposals, since they’re preprogrammed to only believe & default to whatever views they hear from their slanted news sources, some of which aren’t so ridiculous & some are totally ridiculous. And that agenda mostly caves to corporate interests instead of helping working people, but echo-fans don’t seem to have the knowledge, understanding or discernment to realize it. It’s more than an industry, actually; it’s an industry, plus a political movement. The right has a gigantic media apparatus that is devoted to convincing people that liberals disrespect them, plus a political party whose leaders all understand that that idea is key to their political project and so join in the chorus at every opportunity. If you doubt this, I’d encourage you to tune in to Fox News or listen to conservative talk radio for a week. When you do, you’ll find that again and again you’re told stories of some excess of campus political correctness, some obscure liberal professor who said something offensive, some liberal celebrity who said something crude about rednecks or some Democratic politician who displayed a lack of knowledge of a conservative cultural marker. The message is pounded home over and over: They hate you and everything you stand for. This machine is extraordinarily powerful. It may not be able to guarantee Republican victory at the polls, but it absolutely can determine how conservatives — including those Trump voters — view what happens on a day-to-day basis in the political world, including efforts by Democrats to reach out to them.
In the world Republicans have constructed, a Democrat who wants to give you health care and a higher wage is disrespectful, while a Republican who opposes those things but engages in a vigorous round of campaign race-baiting is respectful. The person who’s holding you back isn’t the politician who just voted to give a trillion-dollar tax break to the wealthy and corporations, it’s an East Coast college professor who said something condescending on Twitter. So what are Democrats to do? The answer is simple: This is a game they cannot win, so they have to stop playing. Know at the outset that no matter what you say or do, Republicans will cry that you’re disrespecting good heartland voters. There is no bit of PR razzle-dazzle that will stop them. Remember that white Republicans are not going to vote for you anyway, and their votes are no more valuable or virtuous than the votes of any other American. Don’t try to come up with photo ops showing you genuflecting before the totems of the white working class, because that won’t work. Advocate for what you believe in, and explain why it actually helps people. Finally — and this is critical — never stop telling voters how Republicans are screwing them over. The two successful Democratic presidents of recent years were both called liberal elitists, and they countered by relentlessly hammering the GOP over its advocacy for the wealthy. And it worked.

Peter Wehner, former adviser to President George W. Bush, has written extensively on the moral collapse of the GOP and of the evangelical community specifically. He excoriates evangelicals who give unqualified support to Trump, “a man who has been accused by nearly 20 women of sexual misconduct and has a long history of misogynistic attacks; and for the losing Republican Senate candidate from Alabama, Roy Moore, who was accused of varying degrees of sexual misconduct by nine women, including one who was 14 years old when the alleged incident occurred.” They haven’t batted an eye during the revelations about Trump’s reported infidelity and payment of hush money. They haven’t exercised any independent moral judgment when it comes to Trump’s moral equivalence between neo-Nazis and counter-protesters or in the face of an inhumane immigration policy of family separation; they’ve become both enablers and lackeys. The result is a president and a White House for whom manners, decency, honesty, kindness and contrition are an anathema and who are assured the blessings of a loud evangelical base.
If anyone is entitled to seethe now, it is the majority of the electorate who rejected Trump as unfit but watched slack-jawed as the party of family values lined up behind Trump. Those who haven’t drunk the Trump Kool-Aid are justified in seething about a Republican Party that leaves Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) in place to jeopardize intelligence sources, compromise the special counsel’s investigation and put out a misleading memo used to vilify the FBI. The rest of the country surely is allowed to seethe that the Republican leadership and most every GOP member of Congress refused to take Trump to task for insulting “shithole” countries or for flaunting grotesque conflicts of interest (including receipt of foreign emoluments). In short, Republicans should spare us the crocodile tears. They handed their party over to Trump, stuck with him and manage to rationalize virtually all of his behavior. Their party sold its political soul for a debt-generating tax cut. They have no right to trot out their indignation when Trump acts like Trump.
