Will this be the Smoking Gun?…There’s a lot to unpack in this major news story about pressuring Ukraine & a lot more that needs to unfold. This is reportedly an urgent matter & we as the American people must insist all the facts are revealed to the appropriate committees in Congress. But yet again we see nothing but obfuscation & obstruction coming from the prez & his minions, which we’re left to continually question what are they hiding? Trump is a long-time professional con man who’s a master of covering up his illegal activities & he’s looking to do it again. Plus the prez is a bully, which the initial evidence suggests he tried to bully a foreign leader into partnering with him to commit collusion. Does an allegation of collusion sound familiar?
The news this week may prove to be the tipping point! Trump & PR lawyer Rudy have both admitted they discussed the Biden matter with Ukraine. If there was really nothing to Trump’s phone call with the new Ukrainian president & it was a “perfect” & “beautiful” conversation as he claims, releasing a tape or transcript of the call should be enough to clear things up. But just like with the Russian scandal, for years all we got are lies & cover-ups from Trump instead of transparency. These huge news headlines that exploded over the past few days show the real possibility of multiple crimes at the highest level, including conspiracy, extortion, bribery, obstruction & even treason, so it’s essential all the pertinent evidence comes out.
The primary intrigue from two years of waiting for the Mueller conclusions was to reveal the extent of potential collusion (conspiracy) between the Trump campaign & Russians to taint our election, which we were subsequently disappointed special counsel was not given the leeway to dig up the full story on whatever cooperation may have taken place. So it’s truly incredible a similar scenario would recently play out heading into 2020 with these credible news reports, that Trump tried illegally colluding with a foreign government by pressuring them to dig up dirt on another political opponent that could become the long-sought smoking gun. It looks like the same unlawful playbook used against Hillary 3 years ago. As to his intent, Trump would certainly know by now colluding with a foreign power to gain an advantage in an election is illegal, since that prospect constantly hung over his head during the two years of the Mueller probe. So he has no excuse.
The congressional intelligence committees are entitled to demand & receive the whistle-blower information describing his/her complaints. We may even learn our president held up preapproved military defense aid & made it contingent upon Ukraine looking into the Bidens. That would be a quid pro quo taking the criminality to an even higher level. Trump’s acting director of national intelligence is scheduled to appear before the House Intelligence Committee this week, a handpicked crony who had (illegally) refused to turn over that whistle-blower’s evidence to Congress when Schiff requested it, which that hearing could prompt some bitter fireworks & perhaps end up being a pivotal moment for this presidency.
This escapade overall is a huge test for our Constitution & rule of law. Either we abide by established law so the proper procedures are adhered to in allowing all the facts to come out, or we succumb to a lawless presidency engaged in a relentless pattern of cover-ups & abuse of power which could permanently undermine our democracy. So Trump is getting lots of assistance from members of his corrupt cult in usurping unbridled power while giving him license to engage in nefarious activities of his choosing. He’s defiling our constitutional separation of powers by orchestrating an American-style gestapo to attack political opposition, strategically identifying/placing ruthless accomplices at the highest levels of the courts, legislative branch & intelligence community, plus also enlisting the help of dishonest propagandists to spread falsehoods & conspiracies from the perch of his state-run media (the echo).
It’s now all hands on deck for all the lapdogs in his orbit to confront this week’s revelations which pose a real threat to his presidency. So they’re trying to elevate the Biden story featuring his son’s connections with Ukraine, which that conspiracy theory had been investigated & found to be full of holes, so it’s already widely discredited & largely debunked no matter what the echo claims. It’s their maddeningly disingenuous both sides narrative they constantly resort to as a ploy, trotting out that very same strategy all throughout the Russian probe. That does work great for their gullible base who swallow whatever they’re being told, so when those doting supporters are given any preposterous tale akin to saying a petty pickpocket is even worse than an armed robber, the flock always seem to buy in when it’s coming from their own tribe. It’s also typical of Trump & his deceptive crew to blame the accuser whoever they are, analogous to a witness who reports an armed robbery being personally blamed for something worse than that armed robbery when a false story is concocted about them. Throughout history whistle-blowers have been integral to upholding our laws, but the current administration is making it far more dangerous for whistle-blowers to come forward.
I’m fine with further investigating the Bidens too, since even any scintilla of improper influencing should be exposed before the primaries begin, although it’s very concerning the AG at the head of the DOJ is a corrupted partisan. It almost doesn’t matter whatever the Bidens may have done as it relates to Trump. Taking the news headlines about the Ukraine phone call as a stand-alone story, on the surface it appears we now have a sitting president who has again engaged in criminal actions which should be regarded as impeachable. So of critical importance, we just want to know the truth surrounding what prompted these whistle-blower complaints, which the attention must stay focused like a laser on this story until the relevant facts are uncovered.
When Senator Cornyn just stated the facts should come out, that hints at a crack in the GOP stonewalling wall & offers hope Congress really will get at the required information. All the details behind this latest scandal must be revealed, since by any interpretation what we’ve learned so far does sound very serious. This just might turn into the last straw in a series of scandalous actions by our prez, as exposing conclusive proof of abuse of power, conspiracy & obstruction could become a bridge too far for some Republicans, perhaps finally allowing us to rid ourselves of this loathsome curse inside the White House.
