The accident that caused this train wreck….

I think this whole thing is a fluke.  A joke. But the joke’s on us.  Trump probably knew all along he lacked the knowledge to be an effective President.  But he’s a publicity hound.  So he became a candidate a couple years ago.  He loves doing stuff to bask in the spotlight & magnify his brand.  He may have assumed he wasn’t going to win, but running for the highest office may have just been seen as a YUGE platform for generating more interest in his reality TV show, boost demand for building towers & casinos around the world with his brand name on them, & possibly spark his own political media empire.  But something strange happened along the way.  He became a media spectacle with the real media & phony echo alike discovering he was a ratings magnet, so his every move & every word were covered in exhaustive detail.

So he rode the wave, using his Apprentice-honed entertainment skills & plainspoken style to galvanize a YUGE army of Trumpeters, who failed to recognize his bombasts were little more than hollow promises, as they got caught up in the frenzy & actually believed in his Pied-Piper crusade.  The compliant echo joined in earnest & carried him all the way through to victory, boosted by a poorly conceived Dem campaign, an overly-scripted wooden opponent, & extensive infiltration of illegal interference by the Russians.  It was like when the shock wore off for Trump & his minions they actually won, they were then faced with the daunting question what do we do now?  Nine months into this governing thing they are still nowhere near figuring this out.  Let me confess I love the idea of a renegade rebel swashbuckling into DC to shake up the establishment elite.  If only we had found someone with the personal qualities to pull it off for the betterment of America, not someone taking us for a ride on the crazy train.

As for the news these past few days as seen in the links below (& lots of them), Russia is usually front & center.  The latest formerly high Trump official to chat with Mueller is Sean Spicer of SNL fame, who may have revealed plenty of relevant info from his copious note-taking.  We also learned of Lewandowski testifying & Trump’s top staffers personally tweeting just days before the election some of the fake Russian social media ads.  We also witnessed plenty of stonewalling in a Senate testimony.  If Sessions should ever leave his Attorney General position, he certainly has the qualifications to become a professional dodgeball player.  It appears Sessions might be as guilty of obstruction as Trump.  And what other Attorney General could seem to savor the idea of jailing journalists & abusing the 1st Amendment?  Just as stunning, our own Attorney General has a very lassie faire attitude towards the Russian interference, with Russia surely coming at us again with congressional midterm elections only a year away.  In not making the needed preparations now, it’s like an open invitation to screw with us again.

In other news below the Russian articles, we see more on Trump’s unfitness & bumbling, him losing court cases, his inexcusable spat with McCain, our vulnerability to cyberattacks, & Trump managing to bring Gen. Kelly’s hero son into the discussion of how President’s should respond to families of fallen soldiers (although today Gen. Kelly played the dutiful role of trying to explain this President).  What sparked this controversy was Trump getting caught making false statements (again) about what he actually said to the family of a fallen soldier, as his insensitive comments were confirmed by a congresslady & the soldier’s mom.  This whole story is so disturbing, but the guy at the top made it worse than it should have been.  This man has no sympathy setting.  The President also said he has proof he didn’t say what she said he said, but as we’ve seen in the past when he claims to have proof, that really means he’s lying but will string this along until we forget about it.

As I’ve often mentioned, a narcissistic sociopath cannot see outside of himself. This episode brings back to mind the previous summer’s Khan incident, another ill-conceived fight with a Gold Star family. How can we expect Trump to be a worthy President when he struggles just being human?  And the Niger incident from earlier this month brings back memories of Benghazi, where we had an ambush in Africa with 4 dead Americans, with the administration seemingly covering up the details.  So far there hasn’t been any crazy stories like an anti-Muslim video sparking the attack, but there are legitimate questions about the inadequate air cover & unsuccessful evacuations, plus why did Sgt. Johnson get left behind? After a delayed response in providing explanations, the White House in recent days have been feeding us some conflicting accounts.  Should we conduct a 5-year investigation like Benghazi?

Towards the bottom we see a link to the NFL controversy, which Trump seems obsessed every few days with blowing on his dog whistle in rustling up his racist base.  Much like most Trumpeters seem fine with their leader trampling on the 1st Amendment with his attacks trying to undermine a free press, they also cheer on his NFL bashing that can arguably be viewed as an attack on the same 1st Amendment by railing against free speech.  George W. came out of his shell today & spoke like a statesman, calling bigotry & white supremacy blasphemy, obviously referring to the dangerous attitudes the likes of Trump, Bannon & others of their ilk have unleashed on the American consciousness.  W. correctly warned America has become more vulnerable to falsehoods, conspiracies & interference from foreign actors seeking to further divide us.  At the very bottom we see articles showing religious hypocrisy, more pathetically poor poll numbers for Trump, & wrapping it up with articles on Trump’s non-stop lying.  It’s probably far too late to ever earn our trust & respect, but a good first step would be to quit lying so much.

Just some more thoughts on those lies to wrap this up, which I would think even Trumpeters would be disappointed about their hero always being loose with the truth.  For the leader of our nation, we should all be appalled at his words & actions, as every day this deplorable buffoon continues to embarrass our great nation.  Every day he lies to us & consistently seeks to divide us.  Folks, impeachment isn’t just a possibility, it’s become a necessity.  Mentally & emotionally he’s totally unequipped to be President.  The longer this circus sideshow goes on, the more dangerous it will become.  In the delusional Trumpian world, verbal compliments count far more than tangible results.  Everything to him is all about image, winning, optics & making a quick profit, which when necesary prompts him to prop himself up by creating some false reality.  But he’s losing badly at this presidential game, which only ratchets up his lying, anger & mental instability.  Being a liar & con man is second nature to him, that much has been shown time & again with his repeated words & actions, so as Americans we need to understand he’s been lying to us all along & we’ve been conned.  I respect anyone whose word is his bond, especially in our leaders, but with our President his word is his conned.

The good ones keep leaving out of frustration….
Extremists & the suffocating polarization are driving away the doers, who came to DC to get things done and make things better.  Much like my friend Steve LaTourette, the best reps are resigning out of frustration as their best intentions are met with a yawn & even derision.  Somehow, someway, we must break this insidious culture of gridlock & start electing to Congress more rational reps, not the radicals who’ve mostly taken over the place.  DC keeps getting a lot worse & more dysfunctional the more we lose the best congressional leaders.
Views from the far-left….
Since Cubs fan accuses me of being a leftwing liberal, he should get a load of these Daily Kos articles.  He also commented today how slanted MSNBC’s coverage is, but all I’ll say to that is it’s not as bad as Fox.  The links below start off with more Russian stories, which may be getting a jump on the mainstream media since the Kos is so aggressive.  Then we have thoughts on what were the circumstances surrounding those tragic deaths in Niger?  What is Trump hiding?  Might this be a blunder that would become his Benghazi?  Also featured is Trump having no idea on the specifics of the healthcare & tax plans he’s pushing, which if passed may cause more trouble than they solve.  In the last link, the prosperity gospel seems to have taken hold with many in the evangelical sect, where greed has replaced grace, which might help explain their undying devotion to Trump.
