Guess Who Shares in the Blame?

Starting with Russia & North Korea….

Before we comment on the demented protests & terrorist attack from yesterday in the last section below, where we do place some blame where it belongs, we’ll first start with an update on the Russian scandal. I’ve always speculated the Trump campaign enlisted the help of the Russians to damage Hillary through leaking emails in exchange for agreeing to drop sanctions over Ukraine. There also seemed to be a lot of money exchanging hands along with the regular communications between Trump’s campaign staff & the Russians, which investigators are attempting to piece it all together. For my prediction to come true we’ll have a new President by year’s end, Mueller’s team would need to work fast & cobble together enough concrete evidence to convince many in the GOP base & GOP members of Congress. I’d say things are right on schedule. The leaks have been curtailed from what they were & Mueller runs a tight ship, but we should find out soon enough what they’re finding. From all reports the investigations are accelerating.

On Trump’s threats against North Korea, I do tend to have more of a hawkish outlook towards such rogue regimes having nuclear warheads, especially unstable regimes like that who are closing in on a delivery system with long-range ballistic missiles able to reach us. But it’s unnerving to the degree Trump seems to make over-the-top threats off the cuff almost as an angry knee-jerk reaction. It’s also disturbing he appears to have such a casual attitude about using nukes, when the leader of the free world & most powerful nation on Earth should instead be sending a clear message to the rest of the world these weapons are far too horrible to ever unleash their fury on the world ever again. To even hint at the possibility of using nuclear weapons sets the most dangerous precedent imaginable, with more nukes proliferating under the control of more countries in the future including our enemies, it contributes to an attitude accepting of setting off these devastating bombs to settle grievances. That mentality will ensure mankind destroys itself. Perhaps in all of history the world has never been in a more dangerous place, as nuclear weapons in the hands of competing forces ratchet up the potential for destruction to a level unimaginable in all wars prior to Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Evil reared its ugly head with racism & bigotry on full display yesterday in its ugliest form. If these whacked-out white supremacists want to reinvigorate the KKK & all the deplorable racism that represents, perhaps their ancestors should have never kidnapped the ancestors of African-Americans from their native lands, shipping them across the ocean in deplorable conditions on a slave ship, then treating them like animals once they got to America. This evil derangement syndrome of a deadly protest in Virginia seems misplaced somehow, something that might have happened in our country from a previous century, but in our modern society such racist attitudes should have been long ago disposed of. This reemerging white supremacist & neo-Nazi scourge has been sparked from this administration, starting with Trump’s ongoing thuggish rhetoric stoking the fires. This hate-group movement has also been legitimized in the alt-right world from two of Trump’s closest advisers, former Breitbart head-honcho Stephen Bannon & Nazi-sympathizer Sebastian Gorka. Perhaps the negative fallout from the toxic optics over Trump giving the alt-right a pass can hopefully lead to the firing of those two advisers.

The KKK doesn’t even need their white hoods anymore to remain anonymous now that this administration has encouraged them with a wink-wink/nod-nod dog whistle to engage in civil disobedience. Former KKK master David Duke even reminded Trump it were these white supremacists who helped put him into office to begin with, which might explain Trump’s tepid condemnation (oozing with his own prejudices) of these violent protests & deadly terrorist attack. In his horrendously tone-deaf speech immediately after learning of the deadly tragedy when that car plowed into innocent onlookers, he pivoted to his wonderful economic accomplishments with low unemployment rates, which being an egomaniac he just couldn’t help himself. Right after a terrorist attack & he’s touting his economic record? Those remarks showed an inappropriateness that were off-the-charts! The fact of the matter is he’s trying to give these hate-groups unjustifiable legitimacy, because a hard-fast rule in Trump-logic he must always appease his base as well as Putin, but everyone else is a target for ridicule. And you might recall I’ve expressed fear of a civil war being ignited when & if Trump gets booted from the White House, which we may have just seen examples of his foot soldiers with guns locked & loaded in Charlottesville this weekend.

This episode reminds us terrorism & unabridged hatred don’t just come from Islamic radicals, but white militants & neo-Nazi terrorist attacks can be just as deadly. Trump has helped bring these radicals out of the woodwork. Our President is truly the most divisive leader our nation can ever recall. He plays to his base seemingly as a way to antagonize the rest of us. As a reporter stated after Trump’s weak speech he seems tougher on McConnell than he is on the violent protestors. Larry Sabato said today Trump missed his moment. Many GOP reps in Congress also called him out on a response badly missing the mark. Trump couldn’t even call out the evil-doers directly, saying “many sides” were involved. This was from the guy always outspoken about calling terrorism from Islamic radicals for what it is. But in a way whatever Trump said would have rang hollow, since it’s so readily apparent his bombasts throughout the campaign till now is what gave rise to reenergizing these hate groups.

What we’ve seen here with this tragedy is not just an abdication of leadership, but a President actually complicit in supporting the factors that caused it! Furthermore, his failure to specifically call out this racist & bigoted movement was his Katrina moment that George W. fumbled on but Trump bungles like that on a regular basis. His lack of moral authority & integrity along with a lack of judgement shows he’s incapable of serving as our legitimate leader. Nor is he particularly interested in being our leader since he ignores or shows disdain for anyone outside his core base. Increasingly more in the GOP are growing weary of his charade. The vast majority of Americans are coming to see the bloom has come off the rose on this presidency. And those of us never-Trumpers are not only appalled by his leadership, but we personally find him to be a complete jerk. I sincerely worry he might be a psychopath. That’s not someone who belongs in the White House. It is my hope that as even Trumpeters begin to realize the carnage wrought by this presidency, they will come to their senses & finally disapprove of this President, which could in the end make Trump uniquely capable of uniting our nation in opposition to him.
