HOT NEW Headline, Flynn Cops A Plea
Another big step has been taken by the Mueller investigation that we can expect will inevitably encompass the top levels of the White House. It looks certain Flynn is flipping on Trump by pleading guilty to lying to the FBI, a much lesser charge relative to all the shenanigans he was deeply involved in. The apparent leniency points toward Mueller going after bigger fish. The background info on these charges, at Christmastime last year during the presidential transition, Flynn engaged in conversations with the Russian ambassador presumably about lifting the sanctions against Russia. There’s also word the Trump administration assured the Russians they wouldn’t retaliate over the Russian interference in the election (probably because they were working in cahoots). A month later Flynn lied about those conversations in his testimony to the FBI. It was in February that Flynn was fired as National Security Advisor when his false statements were exposed.
So considering these charges were specifically about the Russian case & involve someone who originally was very high up in the White House, it is a major step forward in helping break this case open. Flynn was one of Trump’s closest confidants during last year’s campaign & the transition period. The promises Flynn made to the Russian ambassador last December weren’t done in a vacuum. It was a directive agreed to in conjunction with top White House staff, likely Kushner & Trump. So assuming this is a plea deal to spill the beans to Mueller, there’s no place left to go up the food chain except implicating the family members on high, sonny-in-law Jared, possibly sonny-boy Donny Jr., & certainly the prez himself. This escalating story also might explain why Trump tried to intervene with the FBI earlier this year on behalf of Flynn, since he knew what Flynn knows. It’s also a piece to the mounting evidence against Trump for obstruction of justice, the same charge that brought down Nixon.
Over the weekend if the potential extent of Flynn’s cooperation becomes public, it could provide a clearer picture of who else is directly in Mueller’s crosshairs. The choice for Flynn seems to have come down to a choice between saving Trump or Flynn’s own son, which is a case of blood being thicker than water. But as I’ve been confidently predicting all year with regards to this scandal, those Trump family members will ultimately be charged for their involvement with the Russian collusion & the cover-up, with the dots now being connected leading inexorably toward President Donald J. Trump himself. The echo can no longer ignore this or spill their confounding blather there is no evidence of collusion (& if there was really no collusion with Russia, why have Trump & top aides in his orbit consistently lied all along about their Russian contacts?). And inside their echo-alternate universe, they can’t even blame this one on Hillary.
Not even the right-wing echo-crowd can complain I only reference liberal sources when even Fox & Newsmax are reporting on this breaking news & its serious implications. And the echo-crowd will someday begrudgingly admit I was right all along. More indictments are surely coming. It’s probable dozens will soon be caught up in this net. The target is shifting squarely on Trump & his family, & he more than anyone knows it. For the prez, in due time we’ll likely discover obstruction is a given & conspiring with an enemy also likely. Mueller is swimming in solid evidence, it’s just a matter of gathering & ultimately presenting it to Congress & the public in a way that leaves no doubt (although nothing will ever convince some hardened Trumpeters). This chugging locomotive is a runaway train that’s impossible to stop, which the American people should start transitioning their thinking from asking if Trump will be impeached or resign, to when. Things are really heating up, so stay tuned!
(On a side note, McConnell says the Senate has the votes on the tax deal. Presumably, GOP congress-people were determined to get this through before the scandal totally consumes DC & takes down this presidency.)
