The News is Getting Wild…This was likely the single-most consequential day yet for the Trump presidency, but fully expect there will be many more days ahead far worse for him. An impeachment inquiry virtually had to be launched, since the signals of criminality by this president have become overwhelmingly obvious. That lone solitary act today has already helped get the public’s attention, along with forcing team-Trump’s hand to turn over documents when they had previously been in total stonewalling mode. And the Senate unanimously passed a resolution the whistle-blower’s complaint should be turned over to the intelligence committees. This week in an accelerated rush we may get the transcripts of Trump’s call with the Ukrainian president, the whistle-blower’s complaint & that person’s testimony before Congress (although beware of another Trumpian Sharpie moment where he doctor’s documents, since they’re almost assuredly going to hide the worst stuff).
From the circumstantial evidence we’ve heard so far, it appears Trump held military funding over Ukraine’s head pending their cooperation to dig up dirt on a political opponent. It sounds just like Trump’s Russia playbook in 2016 for Hillary. But not even Trump’s patented lies or echo-media distortions seem able to let him slip out of this latest scandal. Since the Ukraine story broke a few days ago, the odds for an actual impeachment by a majority vote in the House has skyrocketed. We still need to wait for all the facts to come out before passing final judgment, but this is one week we should all stay in close touch with the news headlines.
