The Angst is Elevated on All Sides
It is so stunning the dynamics being played out in Congress on the GOP side. There’s compelling evidence a presidential campaign orchestrated the most egregious crime ever committed against our election process & democracy by collaborating with a foreign adversary, while spending all this year engaging in a cover-up & sabotaging the investigations, yet the GOP is negligent. As most GOP reps remain mum on the subject & seemingly show a lack of concern, the vocal Trump apologists in Congress are actually trying to derail the investigations by steering the narrative into irrelevant conspiracies down various rabbit holes. Some of these reps have joined in with the administration & taken cues from the echo in becoming complicit in the cover-up. So it’s apparent corruption is running rampant through parts of Congress much like it has enveloped the White House. I can’t help but wonder if Trump’s lawyers did meet with Mueller this week. If so, they probably don’t like the prospect this probe is far from over.
As for the main updates from the newsfeeds seen in the related articles below, the more we learn, the more we realize how much our colluder-in-chief was in bed with the Russians. And what we have learned overall these past few months has been very incriminating. Since we only know a fraction of what Mueller knows, it’s now just a matter of being patient & letting him compile all the evidence until we have the proof. See the related articles where after a Salon summary giving a detailed timeline, the first few links reveal the testimony just given by FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who corroborated Comey’s account that Trump sought a loyalty pledge while requesting the FBI tamp down their investigation, so it’s apparent he obstructed justice. It’s also apparent the prez was aware Flynn lied to the FBI. The Mueller probe knows this & so much more!
Moving on down the links of new revelations, Trump was briefed in the summer of 2016 & warned by the FBI that Russia was trying to infiltrate the presidential campaigns, so he was urged to resist & report it. Now we’ve come to find out his campaign did have repeated contacts with the Russians & expressed a real interest in how the Russians could help their campaign. So rather than reporting it, they regularly hid &/or lied about all their multiple communications with various Russians, ignoring the cogent advice from the FBI. So obviously they were hiding something & if the campaign were truly innocent, it would be a collective effort by Trump & all his merry men to uncover the truth instead of camouflaging it. Trump & his henchmen are indeed acting as if they’re guilty as sin, which lately they’re acting increasingly more agitated & desperate.
From there we see links how Russia plays Trump like a fiddle, with a former intel chief saying Putin uses our prez as an asset. Another group of articles describe Sen. Mark Warner giving a floor speech this week that any attempt by Trump to remove Mueller would cross a red line into an abuse of power. He brought it up since he’s sensing the same reckless language we’ve been hearing for awhile inside the echo-bubble attacking Mueller, has now migrated over to certain parts of the GOP aisle in Congress. The White House seems to have directed Fox fake-news to go on the attack against the special counsel’s investigation, so GOP congress-people are given some cover to also go on the attack. That the vitriol is ratcheting up likely signals they sense the Mueller probe is closing in on evidence that may be considered not just smoke, but a smoking gun. Warner did comment more of the picture is coming into view on the probe.
From there we’re seeing numerous articles that does reveal how the White House, allies in Congress & the echo are obviously coordinating in an all-out attack on the FBI & Mueller. They’re even investigating Hillary again as a diversion, acting as if she’s in power as President Hillary. They keep dredging up toxic concoctions knowing their base will swallow most anything. Putting the dominoes in place to fire Mueller would be horrible optics & create a constitutional crisis. More likely they’re discrediting Mueller so Trumpeters won’t believe any of his findings, creating millions of bamboozled zombie-thinkers with a mentality similar to the OJ jurors. That’s why despite having enough evidence of obstruction to impeach Trump already, Mueller keeps going on building a much stronger rock-solid case. There’s also the real risk of replacing Rosenstein with a Trump puppet, creating all sorts of mischief. Following the money will help solve this case, which we can’t help but wonder if Trump-world might put authorities in place to strike down Mueller’s probe from looking into the Deutsche Bank money trail, or will they attempt to defund the Mueller probe itself?
Whatever stunts Trump & his cohorts are trying to pull, Americans must watch closely & fight back against this coordinated assault on our democracy. Such abuse of power would prove an imminent threat to America! We cannot allow them to block the investigations from getting at the facts! Moving on down the related articles, to the degree Trump is isolating us from the rest of the world is stupefying beyond measure. As we saw with his directing of a heavy-handed approach & even threatening posture at the U.N., he is sacrificing our reputation, influence & leadership authority with most nations, even our closest allies. It’s a dangerous precedent & an open invitation for countries like China & Russia to fill that leadership void. Then we see articles on Gorsuch, as I’m reminded how shortsighted it is for evangelicals to base their entire vote for President on the singular issue of the Court. To support a moral reprobate as leader just to get Gorsuch on the highest court & other conservatives on various other courts, it’s only a temporary stopgap. When a president so badly tarnishes his party’s brand, while possibly even greasing the skids to actually destroying his party, the Dems could take over for a decade or longer, more than undoing whatever inroads conservatives achieved.
In the bottom categories are links to reports on a potential wave election for Dems in 2018, Trump’s history of sexual hijinks & his abysmal poll numbers. Voters preference for Dems controlling Congress has gotten as high as 2008 when they did indeed become the majority party in power (see graph below). Even with the crazy House gerrymandering map drawing & a very difficult Senate map, the Dem enthusiasm & GOP unpopularity saddled down with Trump making their brand toxic are sending clear signals. The degree of a Dem wave will be affected by economic conditions come November 2018. The latest polling also indicates voters trust the Dems more with the economy for the first time in a few years. I’d ordinarily be alarmed at a GOP bloodbath, but the party has become so over-the-top dysfunctional while lost in an illusionary alternative-facts reality, we must first wipe out the demented extremism permeating throughout the party as a prerequisite for rebuilding a viable party.
In the article The voters decided is no way to defend Trump on sexual misconduct allegations, I found this recent Quinnipiac poll stunning:
Fifty percent of American voters, including 59 percent of women and 41 percent of men, say President Donald Trump should resign because of sexual allegations against him.
Calling for President Trump’s resignation are Democrats 85 – 12 percent and independent voters 52 – 44 percent, Republicans say 92 – 7 percent that he should not resign. American voters say 66 – 30 percent, including 73 – 25 percent among women and 59 – 36 percent among men, that Trump does not respect women as much as he respects men.
That’s an awful lot of people who think his alleged conduct — based on what they know now — is enough to disqualify him from office. (Trump won only 46 percent of the vote, you may recall.) If these accusers were given a forum — in court or in a congressional hearing — that number could change significantly.
Imagine if half the nation weren’t enjoying a strong economy, the polling for Trump would really tank. And just wait until Mueller comes up with more & more evidence of criminal activity, even some Trumpeters will jump ship.
