The Trump criminal enterprise is starting to crumble all around him…The convictions this week of his former campaign chairman & personal attorney have taken the scandals surrounding Trump to an entirely new level.  In this worst week yet for Trump-like scandals, the aura surrounding him is taking a big hit.  Especially with the Cohen guilty pleas where he implicated the president for requesting the illegal payments that violated campaign finance laws, it’s the most direct indication yet of Trump having committed a crime.  The hush money payments were made with the obvious purpose of influencing the election.  No matter who Trump claims paid the money, the illegal actions are based on failure to report it as a campaign contribution.  A decade ago John Edwards had a similar case, but the evidence against Trump is far stronger.  It’s reported there is plenty of corroborating evidence supporting Cohen’s claims from materials confiscated in the raid on his office, plus other witnesses such as David Pecker (see info at the bottom).  The prez is looking increasingly like a mob boss operating the Trump criminal organization.

The plea deal with prosecutors did not contain a formal cooperation agreement, but there’s every reason to believe there is an unwritten agreement or is still a work in progress.  Cohen’s lawyer has stated his client will cooperate & has info that would be of interest to special counsel.  There’s conflicting reports on what incriminating evidence Cohen might have against the prez, but it’s within the realm of possibility topics like Trump’s prior knowledge of the Trump Tower meeting &/or WikiLeaks email dump could be in the mix.  The latest news headline has the Trump Organization now under a criminal investigation which Cohen would have direct involvement with: trump-organization-criminal-charges-vance & also us-usa-trump-foundation/new-york-subpoenas-ex-trump-attorney-cohen-in-trump-foundation-probe.  We would think the weight of these multiple scandals would finally change the perception of Trump among some of his supporters.  Thinking people who support him would have to start doubting their leader, wouldn’t they?

So being named in court as an unindicted co-conspirator to a felony, it certainly calls into question Trump’s legitimacy to be president.  Other presidential powers that should also be questioned are his pardon powers, ability to fire members of the DOJ, & the validity of his Supreme Court appointee: senate-democrats-call-to-halt-kavanaughs-confirmation-hearing-after-cohen-manafort-news.  Such actions could have direct implications over investigations which Trump is a part of as a suspect.  In the link below, we see Trump is considering a Manafort pardon.  In links further below, Trump just sparked a spat with DOJ head Sessions, intruding on the authority & independence of the Justice Dept.  Firing more people adds to the obstruction & could bring about a constitutional crisis.  Giving out pardons run several risks for Trump even beyond the horrible political optics, including adding to evidence of obstruction, the person pardoned would have to testify without benefit of pleading the Fifth, & doesn’t protect a felon against state charges which could be brought, which in Manafort’s case could include tax evasion: fox-news-host-trump-told-me-hed-consider-pardoning-manafort.

The signs of this Trump criminal enterprise are getting to be too much.  Much like two decades ago when I supported the impeachment of President Clinton for perjury, I’m now more inclined to call for the impeachment of President Trump based on the new revelations from this week, but we should bide our time & wait on the Mueller report(s).  Let’s find out the full scale of the crimes we’re dealing with, especially with impeachment being essentially a political issue.  Breaking campaign finance laws to influence an election is bad enough, but also conspiring with a foreign enemy to alter the election would be that much worse, which if proven would require removal from office.  Should that time come, we can only hope much of the GOP base & congressional leadership could rise above the cult of Trump, standing up for principles & the rule of law.

This biggest week yet for the evolving biggest political scandal in American history, the news is too big for just a few excerpts to do it justice.  Since our blog host recommends limiting the number of outbound links, we’ve posted a ton of important articles here from the newsfeeds the past couple days which are not live links.  Also see the message with more links posted Wednesday the day after the big headlines broke.  So please peruse the titles & the ones you wish to read, simply copy & paste into the search bar.  Being such a monster week of pivotal news, it could be well worth spending time searching some of these reports over the weekend.  It would prove far more informative than watching a half-hour of the national evening news broadcasts, & about a thousand times more informative than watching Fox fake news in the evenings.  Here’s the big list of articles:

In more recent news with live links, might have Trump just admitted to a crime?: did-trump-just-inadvertently-admit-to-violating-federal-law.  It looks like Mueller has gotten quite a boost over the Manafort trial & Cohen plea deal: mueller-investigation-gains-new-momentum & also poll-mueller-approval-rating-jumps-by-11-points.  And Trump’s attacks on him don’t resonate as much: trump-attacks-on-mueller-probe-are-becoming-less-effective-new-poll-suggests.  It does look more & more like that Steele dossier the echo loves to rail about is being found credible.  On a side note, Trump just admitted his North Korean deal isn’t going too well.  In these excerpts from Rubin pulled from trump-is-less-lucid-than-normal, she points out why Trump & Rudy should rightly be spooked about the prez testifying in front of Mueller:

If he is a liar, then he’s, well, a liar, actually. The “perjury trap” hooey is easily dispensed with (Hint: Do not lie.). Trump, however, has another problem: He cannot tell the truth. Well, yes, over 4,229 lies later, it appears Trump is incapable of telling the truth. But what I meant is that telling the truth as to what he and his son did is more perilous than trying to lie under oath. Here is why the truth is so dangerous for Trump: He publicly called for the hacking of Hillary Clinton’s emails. He fired former FBI director James B. Comey with Russia in mind, he told Lester Holt. He presented a phony reason for the firing to the public (Comey’s handling of Hillary Clinton’s emails). His son met with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer for the purpose of getting something of value: dirt on Clinton. Trump was instrumental in drafting an untrue description of the meeting. He has publicly threatened to fire the special prosecutor; tormented Attorney General Jeff Sessions about his recusal; aligned himself with House Republicans trying to out a confidential source and trying to mislead the public on the warrant to obtain surveillance on suspected spy Carter Page; and put out entirely false conspiracy theories (a spy was planted on his campaign, President Barack Obama bugged his office, etc.) for the purpose of discrediting and impeding the Russia investigation. I could go on and on, but you see the problem.

These are facts that at this point really are not in dispute — because either Trump or his lawyers have confirmed them or because we have read his tweets and heard his statements. It’s not the lying that will get him in trouble, it’s confirming that some or all of these are true — and adding in further detail what cumulatively can be used to form the basis of an obstruction charge. Think of a Mueller interview not as a perjury trap but as a truth trap. Not cooperating, of course, raises the constitutional issue of whether a president can comply with his oath (“take care that the laws are enforced”) when he refuses to cooperate with investigation and enforcement of federal laws (on campaign finance, obstruction, etc.). In other words, he’s damned if he lies or if he tells the truth. It’s a disaster if he testifies or if he refuses. And there’s only one person responsible for his trap(s) — and it’s not Robert S. Mueller III.

Trump & Sessions trade barbs

A constitutional crisis may be unfolding as he keeps abusing his power.  It looks like Trump is mad at Rudy for not originally taking the Attorney General job: trump-has-reportedly-started-raging-at-giuliani-for-not-taking-jeff-sessions-job-total-meltdown.  And he’s always been mad at Sessions for recusing himself from the Russian case after he got the job, from which Sessions snipped back at the prez this week: trump-ratchets-up-attacks-on-justice-department & also gop-senator-trump-wants-to-fire-sessions-for-not-being-a-hack.  And in reviewing this next group of links where Trump goes so far as saying it probably should be outlawed that witnesses would cooperate with prosecutors, the entire motive is he doesn’t want his own crimes discovered.  He runs the White House like a corrupt mob boss who doesn’t think twice about trampling on the rule of law.  The more we see of Trump, the more it looks he wasn’t so much a businessman, but a con man running his own Trump criminal enterprise:
